Influence of GSTM1, GSTP1, and GSTT1 Gene Polymorphisms on Prostate Cancer Risk in Turkish Population

چکیده
We analysed glutathione S-transferase M1, T1, and P1 gene polymorphisms in a case control study to asses their susceptibility to prostate cancer in Turkish population. Polymorphisms were determined by PCR-based methods in 115 control subjects and 115 prostate cancer patients. The frequencies of polymorphisms were compared between patients and controls by logistic regression analysis. Possible associations of genetic profiles with respect to the Gleason score and patient age were also investigated. Besides GSTT1 null genotype has slightly increased prostate cancer risk (odds ratio(OR) = 1.50, 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.85-2.66), its association with prostate cancer risk was statistically significant among smokers (OR = 3.20, 95%CI, 1.06-9.70). GSTP1 Val/Val genotype was more common in cancer patients (OR = 1.63, 95%CI, 0.61-4.37). However, the combination of GSTP1 Ile/Ile and GSTT1 null genotype was associated with a higher risk (OR = 2.67, 95%CI, 1.00-7.10). Our results suggest that GSTT1 null genotype may modify prostate cancer risk among cigarette smokers seperately, and in combination with GSTP1 Ile/Ile genotype, irrespective of the smoking habit in Turkish population.

Association of GSTM1, GSTT1, and GSTP1 gene polymorphisms with the risk of prostate cancer: a meta-analysis.
The glutathione S-transferase (GST) gene superfamily encodes for enzymes involved in conjugation of electrophilic compounds to glutathione. Several polymorphisms in the GST genes have been implicated as risk factors for prostate cancer. We did a meta-analysis of 11 studies with GSTM1 genotyping (2,063 prostate cancer cases and 2,625 controls), 10 studies with GSTT1 genotyping (1,965 cases and 2...
متن کاملGenetic Polymorphisms of GSTM1, GSTT1, and GSTP1 with Prostate Cancer Risk: A Meta-Analysis of 57 Studies
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The GSTM1, GSTT1 and GSTP1 polymorphisms might be involved in inactivation of procarcinogens that contribute to the genesis and progression of cancers. However, studies investigating the association between GSTM1, GSTT1 or GSTP1 polymorphisms and prostate cancer (PCa) risk report conflicting results, therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to re-examine the controversy...
متن کاملAssociation between GSTM1, GSTT1, and GSTP1 polymorphisms and gastric cancer risk, and their interactions with environmental factors.
Glutathione S-transferase (GST) is an important member of phase II metabolic enzymes; GSTM1, GSTT1, and GSTP1 belong to three subfamilies of the GST enzyme. Polymorphisms in GSTM1, GSTT1, and GSTP1 could affect detoxification processes, and increase individuals' susceptibility to cancers. We aimed to investigate the association between GSTM1, GSTT1, and GSTP1 polymorphisms and the risk of gastr...

We conducted a case-control study to investigate the associations between GSTT1, GSTM1, and GSTP1 gene polymorphisms and development of osteosarcoma in a Chinese population. Between January 2013 and February 2015, 153 patients diagnosed with osteosarcoma and 252 control subjects were enrolled in the current study from the Orthopedic Hospital of the Second Hospital of Jilin University. The GSTM1...
متن کاملAssociation between Glutathione S-Transferase T1, M1, and P1 Genotypes and the Risk of Colorectal Cancer
Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are enzymes which play an important role in the neutralization of toxic compounds and eradication of electrophilic carcinogens. Genetic polymorphisms within the genes encoding for GSTs may therefore cause variations in their enzyme activity, which may in turn influence the interindividual susceptibility to cancers. In this study, we aimed to investigate the ass...
